History

Skookum Tools – “The tool store at your door,” came into being in September of 2000. Robert McDonald, who had been working in the industrial supply business as a salesman, saw an opportunity to provide a better service to customers than they currently enjoyed. The basis of the idea came from the trucks that service the automobile mechanic trades with hand tools. Since mechanics have come to rely on the “tool truck” showing up at their shop, why wouldn’t other trades appreciate a similar service? Hence, Skookum Tools was born, set up to provide primarily consumable goods to the wood, metal and fiberglass trades. Shortly after commencing business operations it was evident that these trades were indeed supportive of this type of supply.

Definition of Skookum

‘Skookum’ is a Chinook word relating to power in structure – a man, a tree, an engine that is powerful, strong or tough is said to be ‘skookum’. Adapted for common use in British Columbia, ‘skookum’ is often used to mean ‘reliable’, ‘first-rate’, ‘the best’.

Strong relationships with customers, products designed for industrial use, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to look after the customer is what Skookum Tools is all about.
